Let's look at the administration page first. It is critical part and should be kept secure and not reach by general public. There are secure extensions you can install to protect it. And it is recommend you install them when the Webbox is released to the Internet.

After login, you will be on the control panel page. It is overview of what you can do for administration. You can select what you want to do on the top menu bar or left side bar.  Two menu bar basically provides same functions.

Let's do something - changing the name to the website.

The functionality of Joomla can be expanded using extensions. There are ton of different extensions. Some do for secure, some for contents. Joomla classifies extensions into component, module, plugin and template. For beginners, sometime they are confusing. Here we briefly introduce them.

  • Component - component is comprehensive one, sometime it will include modules and plugins. Extra function given by a component will be display on Components menu. Virtuemart is a component.
  • module - often using in display content and form, examples such as login form, ad banner, RSS feeds and etc.
  • plugin -  does system level matter, examples such as  content caching, LDAP authentication and etc.
  • template - look and feel of the website
  • language pack - Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean ... and many others.

Joomla! 3 (we 're using) provides online extension installation, click the button of  [Add "install from Web" tab] to enable it. On the Install from Web tab you can search any extension and installed it via Internet instantly.  We will demo how to do offline extension installation while adding Virtuemart component.
